Lord, direct my paths

Most believers desire for God to direct their paths. Some go beyond desire and even pray for God's leading. Through our scripture today I want to show you that God has already given us a plan to bring this desire to pass.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY

Proverbs 3:5 & 6
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Trust-a person on whom or thing on which one relies:reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing;confidence.
We all trust in something and/or someone. We trust that we will receive a pay check after working on the job. We trust that when we sit in a chair that it will be made of materials strong enough to hold our weight. We trust that our best friend will forever be around to be our laughing partner and even the strong shoulder that we cry on.
Trust is usually gained over time. I have tried the integrity and strength of a friend and he/she has proven to me that I can put my trust in them.
Now isn't that just like God. I can trust God for He has been a constant in my life. He has proven to me that His integrity, strength and ability is a package in which I can rely.
The scripture tells us to trust in the Lord. Put your confidence in God. Notice it says with all thine heart. This is more than just having a mind to trust or believing in the concept of trusting. But we must with every fiber of our being, with all that is within us trust God.
The next directive is to lean not to our own understanding. Now this may be difficult for some scholars because our own intellect try to instruct us on what makes sense and what doesn't. We must trust God enough to obey Him regardless of whether we understand or not. So, the scripture is warning us not to prefer or favor our way just because it is the way we believe or conclude in our minds to be right.
We are to acknowledge (yield, accept, recognize, consent) God in all our ways. Please take note of the word ALL. Not just your Sunday Morning ways. But in everything we must yield and consent to God. If I acknowledge God in my bad attitude and not lean to my way, my understanding. My understanding is I have had this attitude since I can remember. But if I will trust God with all my heart, He will direct me to a better attitude.
We pray for God to direct our paths but do we truly want Him to? If so, follow the three directives that have been given in the above scriptures.
  • Trust God with all your heart
  • Lean (favor or prefer ) not towards your understanding (belief, perception, conclusion, idea)
  • Acknowledge God in All your ways

These three directive is followed by a promise. The promise of God directing our paths. God is not a man that He should lie. (Numbers 23:19)
What God promises He will perform. But don't forget this promise is conditional. You must follow the three directives, then God will do His part.
